Apocrypha Files
My artwork production in the early 2000’s segued from narratives using dogs and plant forms as stimuli into investigations/references that I called The Apocrypha Files, works that discuss belief systems of dubious authenticity. I was interested in imagery that evoked an observation motivated by curiosity and recollection, and fostered by traditions of written and oral histories. Being a southerner, I understood a rich background in such belief systems, ranging from superstitions regarding weather, planting seasons, suspicious tall tales of derring-do, premonitions and symbols of good or ill fate, to curious religious convictions and rituals.
